The 35 finalists for this year’s Leicester Curry Awards have been announced, causing the competition to really heat up ahead of the grand final.

Indian restaurant and takeaway owners gathered in the Mattioli Woods Sky Lounge.

There are seven categories and the public voted for the top 5 in each category. The Curry Awards allows Leicester to show off its culinary craftmanship as well as highlighting that it`s one of the UK`s “most prized curry destinations

Starting with ‘Best Takeaway,’ a category sponsored by Bond Adams. The finalists were; Hannans Spicy Cuisine, Anika Balti Express, Masalas, Khyber Nights and Aylestone Spice.

Secondly, the ‘Best Vegetarian Restaurant’, sponsored by Kings, announced the five finalists as; Shiv Sagar, Shivalli, Tangoe,Sharmilee and Desi Bites.

Moreover, the ‘Best Pub Restaurant’ category, sponsored by Cobra Beer, revealed the finalists as; ‘The Indian Chef at 3 Kilns’, ‘Paddy’s Marten Inn’, ‘Gurkha Curry – The Wyvern’, ‘The Broadway Bar and Grill’, and The Woolpack.’

When it comes to ‘Best New Restaurant’, sponsored by John Lewis & Partners, the five establishments with the most votes are; Tandem, Everest lounge, Friends Tandoori, The Taj Bar and Grill and Saffron Ivy.

Moreover, the ‘Best Street Food’, sponsored by Pukaar Group, revealed its five finalists as; ‘Desi Street Food’, Mumbai Sandwich Station, Indian Rooster (Queens Road), Chatwala (Gypsy Lane) and Momma’s Kitchen.

Second to last we have the ‘Best Fine Dining Restaurant’, a category sponsored by Mattioli Woods, which announced its successful finalists as; Soi Indian Restaurant, Avatar Dining, Heritage India, Mumbai Inn and Salim’s.
