Noreen Khan, when did you first discover yoga?
I was 16 and my elder had a Vogue natural health and beauty book which I loved to read as I enjoyed making the natural face masks from it. Then I came across a chapter of Yoga and from there Noreen Khan started following the pictures of poses and flows and began learning more about it.
How often do you do yoga?
Even though during most of my adult life I wanted to learn and practise this exercise more, due to the hectic lifestyle I had, I would practise once a week or as often as I could. Since lockdown started last March, I finally had the time I needed to really take my practise to the next level by practising daily for an hour in the morning. I’m so pleased I’m at this stage as it has always been a goal of mine.
How does yoga help you personally?
For me, the benefits have been endless. It lowers my stress levels, helps me to focus, to breathe better, it’s made me stronger not just physically but mentally too and it helps me to stay in shape. Plus, I love the challenge of yoga and the whole journey it takes you on.
Has it made you more flexible?
Oh yes definitely, the more I practice the more I’m able to do certain asanas (poses) that I couldn’t even attempt before. However, I’m still working on the splits!
Whats your most favourite thing about yoga?
Once you start the yoga journey it’s a way of life and what I truly love about it is that you never stop learning. I’ve always been fascinated by it and wanted to know more, a few months ago I decided to take up a Yoga teacher training course purely so I could learn more about 8 limbs of yoga-movement is just one of the limbs.
Doing the course is just so insightful and even though its actually quite a tough course, there’s loads of studying to do and I’m really loving it. I have no immediate plans to teach but who knows I may do in the future!
Finally what pose do you find really challenging?
Oh there’s quite a few but I’m currently working on the crow and crane poses and hopefully one day I can master the scorpion, firefly and 8 angle poses plus many more!
